Cherchies Cuban Black Beans & Rice Soup

Hot & Spicy!! Serve as a main course or as an accompaniment to a chicken, fish or pork dish. With sweet red peppers and seasoning packet. We enclose a sample bottle of Tabasco Pepper Sauce in the bag of soup to use if you want a hotter dish. Makes approximately 9 (1 cup) servings.

Additions:
10 cups water
1 (15 oz.) can crushed tomatoes
2 tbsp. olive oil
1 garlic clove, crushed
1 large onion, chopped
Cooking Directions:

Beans are harvested in their natural state and even with the most careful processing, foreign substrances such as small stones may appear. Examine closely prior to preparation.

Rinse beans thoroughly in cold water.

In a large soup pot, bring water and beans to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Saute garlic and onion in olive oil until transparent.

After beans have cooked, add onions, garlic, seasoning packet, rice, peppers and tomatoes, bringing to a boil. Simmer covered for an additional 30 minutes, stirring frequently to insure that rice doesn't stick to bottom of pot.
Serving Suggestions:

Sprinkle each serving with grated cheese, sour cream, chopped chives, scalllions or cilantro.

For a spicier taste, add dashes of Tabasco (included).
Ingredients:
Black beans, enriched long grain white rice, freeze dried US grade #1 red bell peppers, chili pepper, cinnamon, red pepper, cumin, celery, white pepper, salt, sugar, hydrolyzed soy protein, dehydrated vegetables (onion, garlic, parsley), oleoresin turmeric, spice extractives (silicon dioxide added to prevent caking).
