Additions:

 
1 large onion, chopped
5 cups water
1-1 1/2 lbs. boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cubed
1 can (7 oz) mild green chilies, chopped
 

Cooking Directions:

  • Rinse and sort beans, discard any foriegn material.
  • Place beans and 4 cups water in a kettle.
  • Boil for 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat, cover and let stand for 1 hour. Drain.
  • Bring 5 cups water, beans and onion to a boil and simmer covered for 1 hour.
  • Now add the chicken and seasoning packet and simmer covered for one hour or until beans are tender and thickened.
  • Stir occasionally to prevent scorching. Thin with water if necessary.
  • Right before serving, stir in chilies for a reallt fresh chili flavor.

Ingredients:

Beans, masa harina flour, chili powder, salt, onion, garlic, spices.

June 26, 2010 - The spices are great! The entire recipe was awesome. We did decide to sear the chicken prior to adding it to the beans/onions. It was really delicious!
