This is the closest to scratch that I've found. I like to use the oven as well as the slow cooker. About 300° for 2hrs and its heaven!! I toss in an orange, some lime, garlic, s&p. Brown the meat well either way. The fond makes the dish!! And this sauce is excellent!

we have tacos or some kind of mexican or tex-mex once a week for dinner and i've become a big fan of the frontera brand. i've used this packet four or five times now and i feel like it makes the meat tasty without having much of a flavor on its own, if that makes sense. it's definitely not spicy at all and i wouldn't call it garlicky either. i brown the meat and then add it to the crock pot with this packet, some orange juice, an onion, and a few big smashed garlic cloves to punch up the flavor. the meat comes out perfect every time though and it's my boyfriend's favorite taco filling. we serve it with chopped raw onion, cilantro, and lime wedges on corn tortillas. i use the leftovers to make enchiladas a few nights later or a big tray of nachos.
